Exchange with stakeholders

WestLB aims to improve its sustainability management continuously in order to seize new opportunities and avoid risks. Since 2004, WestLB has therefore engaged in a constructive dialogue with civil society groups who are willing and ready to jointly shape a sustainable future. The exchange with our stake-holders provides us with valuable feedback on our activities, plans and strategies. Our stakeholders provide us with important assessments concerning opportunities and risks in our business and consequently our corporate strategy. We are convinced that close cooperation offers all parties added value.

The expectations and requirements of our stakeholders are differentiated and varied. WestLB is therefore caught between conflicting interests, which we seek to satisfy through targeted and systematic dialogue tools.

Sustainability Dialogue Forum

With our regular reporting on sustainability issues, we seek to provide our stakeholders with detailed information on our sustainability strategy and our achievements in this field. In the context of the “WestLB Dialogforum Nach-haltigkeit” (Sustainability Dialogue Forum), we conduct a semi-annual ex-change with leading environmental and development organisations and scientific institutes on the sustainability strategy of WestLB as well as on general and specific business risks and opportunities. The members of the forum include representatives of BankTrack, Germanwatch, Urgewald, the Südwind Institut, the Wuppertal Institut and the WWF. The WestLB participants in this exchange include representatives of the front-office and the back-office as well as the Sustainability Management Department. The results of the Dialogue Forum are incorporated in the refinement of the sustainability strategy and the sustainability management process, e.g. in the development and implementation of business policies. In addition, we exchange views regularly with our stakeholders at conferences and in bilateral meetings – a form of cooperation that is both results-oriented and informed by mutual respect.
